5 Easy Ways You Can Help The Environment

20th May 2021

Global warming has been a known issue for many years but recently there has been a growing interest among the public, businesses, and the government to save our planet. People are consciously trying to do their bit for the environment, however there is still a lot more that needs to be done.

While these days the majority of people rely on the use of their own vehicle to travel, there are many easy things you can do to reduce your carbon footprint. Here are 5 ways you can be more eco-friendly:

1. Switch To Electric Cars

You probably know by now how environmentally friendly electric cars are. As they emit almost zero emissions, electric cars are the step in the right direction in helping the environment. For a list of more benefits of electric cars, check out this post. With the government’s plan to transition into all electric cars by 2030, there are more electric car options than ever, and this will only increase in the next few years!

Compello can source a wide selection of the latest electric cars. Whatever you want, we can get!

2. Check Your Tyre Pressure

Make sure, at least once a month, that your tyres are inflated correctly. Moving with under-inflated tyres means that your engine has to work twice as hard to get your car moving and is actually quite dangerous. You can actually increase your fuel mileage by 4% which will also save you money!

3. Get Your Car Regularly Serviced

Having your car well maintained and frequently tuned improves its longevity, efficiency, and reliability. It ensures that everything is working as it should so that you’re not consuming more fuel and emitting more emissions than you need to.

All cars that Compello source are less than two years old and are thoroughly checked before sending it out.

4. Telecommute Where Necessary

During lockdown, the UK carbon emissions dropped by a whopping 31% in early April compared with 2019 levels. One of the things that contributed to this was that a large proportion of working professionals worked from home instead of commuting to work. This goes to show the impact that a small change like this can make on the environment. Therefore, if you can, work from home as much as possible. It doesn’t have to be full remote but by reducing your office days by even one day could cut emissions as much as 20%.

Consider swapping your company car and hire from Compello when you need to commute to avoid unnecessary travel.

5. Print Less

It is said that an office worker typically throws away 45% of paper after printing. This is costly for both the business and the environment. A lot of energy and materials go into creating paper for which half is wasted and never used. Therefore, next time you want to print something, perhaps consider a more eco-friendly solution, such as store documents electronically or using a memory stick. If you must print, consider printing on both sides of the paper and print only what you need. Always recycle after using!!

At Compello, we use 100% paperless systems. Everything is transacted through our online portal and queries are dealt electronically.
